Maybe the battery light flickers and you assume alternator failure — that word gets thrown around a lot.

So you replace the part. You pay for Bentley Continental GT rear brake pad replacement, or a new alternator, or an MT 07 oil filter because the dealership recommended it. Problem solved, right?

How to Actually Fix This (The Short Version)

Measure pressure, voltage, and runout before you replace anything. A 5-minute test with a $30 gauge can save you hundreds. If you don't have data showing the part is out of spec, don't replace it.

Match by specification, not by catalog number alone. Cross-reference the bypass pressure, the pulley ratio, the friction coefficient — whatever is relevant. If you can't find that data, call the supplier. If they can't give it, they're not a supplier you want.

Verify the mating surface before installation. Every time. No exceptions. The 90 seconds you spend cleaning a hub or checking a mounting flange is the cheapest insurance you'll ever buy.
